Honey On Duty is based in the Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. area, but we travel nationwide. For out-of-state visits, we work with sponsors and donors to fund travel. Learn more about our therapy dog programs.
No. Therapy dog visits from Honey On Duty are always free to those in need. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and our healing visits, crisis response deployments, and community programs are funded entirely by donations and sponsorships. If you'd like to support our mission, you can make a donation or send a HoneyGram to someone who needs comfort.
A typical therapy dog visit lasts between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the setting and needs of the individuals we're serving. Hospice visits may be shorter and more intimate, while community events or school programs can last several hours. We always prioritize Honey's well-being and the comfort of those we visit, adjusting the length of each visit accordingly.
Honey On Duty visits a wide range of facilities and settings, including hospitals, hospice care centers, burn units, children's hospitals, schools, libraries, first responder stations, crisis scenes, detention centers, addiction treatment facilities, corporate offices, and community events. We also provide support at funerals and memorials when invited. Each visit is tailored to the specific needs of the facility and the people we serve.
For local visits in the Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. area, we can often arrange a therapy dog visit within a few days. For crisis response situations, we aim to deploy as quickly as possible. Out-of-state visits require more planning and coordination with travel sponsors. Contact us as early as possible to ensure we can accommodate your request, especially for events or scheduled programs.
During a therapy dog visit, Honey and her handler Stefan will arrive at your location and spend time providing calm, gentle companionship. Honey is trained in deep pressure therapy, tactile redirection, and quiet presence. She may sit beside patients, rest her head on laps, or simply be a steady, comforting presence in the room. Stefan provides trauma-informed support and is available for conversation, prayer (when requested), or simply being present. Each person also receives a HoneyGram β a handwritten note of hope as a tangible reminder that they are not alone.
"Before my 103-year-old grandfather passed, Honey's final visit brought one of his last smiles. He whispered 'I love you' as she leaned into him β proof that presence matters when words fail."
β Stefan Walter, Honey's Handler
"Honey isn't just a dog β she's a healer. Watching her bring peace during medical crises has changed how I understand recovery."
β Medical Professional, Hospital Partner
"Trauma affects everyone involved β not just the officers. Honey helps us remember none of us walk this alone."
β Participant, CISM Training (Fredericksburg PD)
